in his element

from the age of three we knew he was going to be a bit of a challenge to raise

he always did things his own way

he never saw punishment as a deterrent for his bad behavior

truly unconventional

always sees things in life much differently than others

the "norm" was never normal for him

seeing yellow caution tape was more of an invitation than a warning to stay away (unlike his mother)

very concrete thinker, black and white, no gray

focused on things that only interest him

says what he thinks

determined (hard-headed)

never plans anything more than 10 minutes in advance

doesn't like change but can adapt easily

puts all his eggs in one basket

always knew that whatever he chose to do we wouldn't have to worry

all the things that were most annoying about him now have become his strengths.

He's gone now. Flown the coop.  Looking for a new adventure. From the Midwest to the Pacific coast. Pursuing whats been tugging at him for a couple years now.

I pray that all that we've taught him will be enough.
I pray that he will look to God for guidance and council.

Know that you are loved Cal.

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."   Philippians 4:8

  1. Hey, it's fun to find you blog! Hannah was telling us at Tom the elder's birthday party last week about Cal's new job. We were all very impressed :)

  2. Cal is certainly enjoying the west coast...much different from the Midwest!
